Held annually (in November-December), This fair is the largest Spanish-language book fair globally and one of the most important in the world.
Guadalajara is set to host part of the 2026 FIFA World Cup, which will be jointly held in the United States, Mexico, and Canada. This marks the third time Guadalajara will serve as a World Cup host city, having previously hosted matches in the 1970 and 1986 tournaments. The matches in Guadalajara will be held at Estadio Akron, located in Zapopan, Jalisco. This modern stadium is known for its excellent facilities and significant capacity, which makes it an ideal venue for such a high-profile event.
As the second-largest city in Mexico, Guadalajara offers a rich cultural experience. The city is renowned for its vibrant folk dances such as the Jarabe Tapatío and unique traditions like the Charreadas, a type of rodeo. Additionally, the city boasts numerous tourist attractions, including its historical squares, museums, parks, and architectural landmarks like the 16th-century cathedral.
Lake Chapala, the largest freshwater lake in Mexico, is located approximately 50 kilometers (about 31 miles) south of Guadalajara. This proximity makes it a popular destination for both locals and tourists seeking a tranquil escape from the bustling city. The region around Lake Chapala is known for its thermal springs, which are popular for their therapeutic properties.
Guadalajara and Puerto Vallarta, a renowned beach resort city on Mexico’s Pacific coast, are now more connected than ever, thanks to the recent completion of a major highway project. This new route significantly reduces travel time between the two cities to just about 2.5 hours.
